What is Thai fragrant rice?
Thai fragrant rice is a long grain rice with a light jasmine aroma, grown mainly in the irrigated central plains of Thailand. The best-known type is Pathum Thani fragrant rice. It can be grown in more than one crop a year, so it costs less than Thai Hom Mali while still offering aroma and a soft texture.

Fragrant rice or Hom Mali: which should you buy?
Choose Thai Hom Mali when your customers pay for the strongest aroma and the official Hom Mali quality mark. Choose Pathum Thani fragrant rice when price matters more and a milder aroma is acceptable, for example in mid-market retail, food-service and wholesale markets.
Some buyers use blends of Hom Mali and fragrant rice to reach a target price. The blend ratio is agreed in the contract and stated on the quotation.

What is Pathum Thani fragrant rice?
Pathum Thani fragrant rice is a Thai long grain rice with a light jasmine aroma. It is grown mainly in the central plains and can be planted more than once a year, which makes it more affordable than Thai Hom Mali rice.
Is fragrant rice the same as jasmine rice?
In the trade, jasmine rice is often used as a general name for Thai fragrant rice. Thai Hom Mali is the premium grade with an official standard, while Pathum Thani fragrant rice and blends are lower-priced fragrant options.
